Isamu Hazama

works on between objects and books. Based in a small traditional Japanese satoyama, he uses materials sourced from the surroundings of his studio. Instead of using specific materials and techniques, he combines diverse artistry in his works, just as the common villagers did in the past. He does not competitively seek elements to realize specific designs, but the materials come first, and he expresses his ideas by researching those materials and their background in the daily lives of the historical satoyama. He respects and references established techniques of well-established crafts, but always learns and experiments in unconstrained ways.
